October Stitch Fix- Bathroom Selfie Edition

October Stitch Fix- Bathroom Selfie Edition

Something I am not sure if I have mentioned before about Stitch Fix- not only do you fill out an extensive style profile, link a pinterest page, and provide feedback with each box you receive, but you can send a note to your stylist before your box ships every month. This helps the stylist to pick out items you'll most likely want to keep. In the past I've asked for specific requests like "layering pieces", or "dresses to wear to an upcoming wedding", or jeans and "something edgy."

This was the only month I did not have specific directions regarding what I was looking for....and I regret it. I figured I'd just roll the dice and see what happens. Well this is what happened....

Braeden Lattice Detail Blouse- $54 (Sent back)

This was a really pretty color and I love the detail. But....it looks like any other top I would have bought elsewhere, and it was way too short on my torso. I am seriously tired of having to wear tank tops under everything!

Priya Triangle Printed Knit-Back Tank- $54 (Sent back)

So this was actually a very pretty mustard yellow and navy blue in person (doesn't translate well in pics), but again, too short and boxy on my torso.

Market and Spruce Clove Twist-back Cardigan- $64 (Sent back)

This was a pretty color, but again, similar to 75% of my pre-stitch fix color palate. I am trying to branch out and add *different* things to my wardrobe....although I desperately need another long sleeve cardigan.

The back had an interesting detail...I just wasn't sure about it.

Next up...RD Style Seth Slub Knit V-neck Sweater- $68 (Sent back)

I really hated this one. There wasn't even a second I considered keeping this. It had that shiny look that reminded me of the cheapy clothes at Rainbow I bought when I was 16. It was an ugly red-brown-purple and black color and boxy and shapless. No, no, definitely no.

Then finally a keeper....Kut from the Kloth Kate Distressed Boyfriend jean $78.

I had been wanting a lighter colored distressed style jean (since literally all I have are very dark jeans). I had never tried the boyfriend style before- they are a little baggy and you can wear them like skinny jeans or with cuffs up and cute flats or sneakers.

So...I learned my lesson- I need to be a little more specific in what I'm looking for next time. But
after an exhausting  trip to the outlet mall over Columbus day weekend, both kids in tow, and leaving-defeated-with not a single item for myself, I reconfirmed my love for Stitch Fix. Sometimes you might get more misses than hits, but it's still worth it to have someone else shop for me!

September Stitch Fix

It's here! My September Stitch Fix box!

If you need an overview of how Stitch Fix works, check out my first blog about it here.

This time I asked for tops, specifically a couple pieces that would work with my awesome Reggie Skinny jeans from my last box. I also asked for an "edgy" piece just to see what would happen....the awesome thing about Stitch Fix is that they send you things specific to the style(s) you indicate you like, or are interested in trying.

First up, was the big surprise of the box. A skirt. As soon as I peeked at the invoice (which you can do as soon as they ship to you), I knew I wouldn't keep this. I mean, after all, it was a SKIRT. I don't do skirts for work, and I rarely have an occasion to wear one....Jon and I don't really get many date nights.

But then I tried it on, and I really liked it. It was long- which is really really hard to find for my height. And it was comfy and fit well. It looked pretty good with a black top from The Limited I've had in my closet for years. And as soon as I tried it on Jon said I should keep it. So now at least I do have something for that elusive date night!

Next was a Dolman top. I was a little wary of this since my last one didn't turn out so well. But this one was a heathered grey stripe (which I love) and was actually a very soft, thin knit sweater: perfect for fall. I really liked the way it looked and felt, so I decided to keep this one.

Next up, my "edgy piece"....a faux leather jacket. I liked that it was a nice grey color and not the typical black, and had a cool asymetrical zipper. But It just didn't look right on me. It was a little too big and looked odd both open and closed.

Next up, another Dolman top- this one was orange/coral (yay!) with a cool print. I wasn't too sure about how it is tighter and gathered near the tummy area but I liked it enough to look past that. Plus it makes it different from your average top.

Then came the blouse. (I really hate that word.) I tried it on several times, and I liked the contrast with the dark skinny jeans, but I just think I look a little ridiculous in this particular color of pink. And something is just weird to me about the one itty bitty pocket on the boob. I decided to pass on this one but I am open to a different top in a similar style, different color.

All in all, I am very pleased with this one. Looking forward to next month! If you are interested in trying your first Stitch Fix, I'd appreciate if you use my referral link here :).
